Also if there was a link to report users too?.. As some are clearly created for spam purposes only.

Can't answer to the security question but I would like the same - not sure if it's really necessary to post, but to create an account at least. However, when you report a spam post, when I go in to remove it I will also go in and ban the account at the same time as well. (Personally I'd love to see the forum sw upgraded and hopefully have some more built-in features, not sure what they have on the newer versions though.)
Users only (no posts yet) that are clearly for spam I'll ban accordingly when I see them - unfortunately today is one of those days when I'm not really around. Sad  On occasion I've received pm's with the profile link to spam users so that I can go ban them when I log in - if you're really up for it you're welcome to do that.

It's OK varg, you're doing a great job and no one's expecting you to be online 24/7  green wink
I've reported a lot of spam posts, I do it because I hate spammers and not because I expect immediate removal.

If a spam account is removed does its posts disappear at the same time?
Then it would make more sense to just send a pm with a link to obvious spammers - if you're sure you don't mind it? - rather than reporting each post individually.

Yeah, I have been reporting those spammers these two days.

Users only (no posts yet) that are clearly for spam I'll ban accordingly when I see them
+1, varg. Some new members have put their signatures and pictures/text with lots of links. And I found it really bad - many of them put the links to pornographic sites there.

I've reported a lot of spam posts, I do it because I hate spammers and not because I expect immediate removal.

I agree, jc. I hate spammers especially if they are posting inside the important topics/discussions. There has been a lot of spamming in the clan topics. It's no fun to scroll up and down a discussion because of those spams. And those spammers have been using the forum as an advertisement media. They all offer ridiculous drugs such as viagra and stuffs!  blue angry
Also, some pornographic posts can be found around. Posting pornographic videos and links to pornographic sites are common.

FYI, Craig has put in a fix that is supposed to help foil the spam bots forum registration. Hold your thumbs and hope it helps!
Keep in mind however that it may be a bit before it's really noticeable - some of the spammers will post immediately when they're created, others will slumber for a few days, weeks or even months before they post, and the fix can only block new registrations. But at least we shouldn't have anything new! (I hope)   Cheesy

So either it isn't working or Bcapulkojjpce is an old profile coming active now. He's posted something like ten spam. Or someone is making new accounts to irritate everyone. Thanks to all the Mods for dealing with this crap.

Those spammers seem to be dyslexic, aren't they? Their names are often the mixture of disorganized letters. blue tongue

What if all new registered users were only able to post in one specific thread at first, say an introduce yourself thread. That post needs to be approved before it can go through. After that approval they would have the ability to post anywhere. I forget which forum did this, but it worked nicely.

Nixta, I've heard of a system where new users saw a separate forum (maybe it was hidden visually) that warned people not to post there. If you did, your account was immediately banned and all your posts deleted. So it was basically a trap for spammers.

Also, we put in a forum mod that checks emails and IP addresses of new users against a large database of spammers at stopforumspam.com. This should be a huge help in filtering. We also added text questions like "2 + 2 = ?" and "Leave this field blank." We're also deleting spam accounts that already exist.

Loving the additions, but just thought I'd say that the latest offender was registered today.

The spamming definitely seems to be getting worse again at the moment...
Is there anything that can be done about it?
